Do you wonder why bullying abuse is even a debatable issue? According to some, it's a necessary part of our society and a child's growth. Some, however, disagree and think that it's adversely affecting the lives of children. Verbal, physical, and mental abuse, according to researchers, is in fact negatively impacting social and educational development.

1. Suicide ranks as the third cause of death for individuals in the 10-24 age group

This fact is even more apparent for the male gender who commits suicide 5 times more frequently than females. In the late months of 2010, nine teenage boys committed suicide in countries worldwide after being tormented at school with anti-homosexual taunts and abuse. It's heartbreaking that these students felt the need to end their life but even more disturbing is that even more children are still suffering.

2. Ignoring bullying makes you a bully as well.

In Dan Olewus Bullying Circle, there are 7 roles that people play. The first role is the leader and the main aggressor. Head bullies tend to act with the support of others, known as secondary attackers. There are also outright and passive supporters of bullying abuse which make the third and fourth roles. The fifth participant is indifferent and is simply present to view the spectacle. The sixth role does not agree with the , however, they do not react to stop it. The last person actually gets involved and attempts to save the victim and keep the bully from causing more harm.

3. Sleeping less could possibly be a link to bullying.

A study was performed by researchers at the University of Michigan on young children who had reported difficulties with social interaction. The researchers discovered that it was hard for these children to stay alert during the day and when they were sleep, had disrupted breathing patterns. The results have spurred increased testing to further substantiate the evidence that sleep effects brain functionality and social interaction.

4. Primary and Secondary school girls contribute the most to cyber bullying.

A recent survey was performed to assess the involvement of 10-18 year olds at a typical high school in the south on internet bullying abuse. Thirty days before the survey, about eight percent were harassed via phone or the web. Within the same group, 25% were victims and 22% were also aggressors.

5. School attendance is on the decline because of bullying abuse.

Throughout 2010, 6% of students will avoid attending school because of fear of a bully within any randomly selected 30 day time frame. That six percent translates into 160,000 students skipping school daily. How are students supposed to grow and development when they can't get the necessary educational instruction? Several additional factors play a role in bullying and with the presence of technology growing each day, it will become harder to curb its effects. The legal system can protect your child or a child you know against bullying abuse. Although the laws differ from state to state, its best to know what you legally can do to protect the children of our future.
